Fireside Brands Canada: a multi-brand restaurant website for the Canadian market

Fireside Brands Canada runs four quick-service restaurant brands under one corporate roof, from Southern fried chicken to hearth-baked pizza. The Canadian edition builds on the US site with Canadian spelling, provinces, CAD pricing, and Canadian legal requirements. As a multi-brand restaurant digital agency, we delivered the brand identity, a modular design system and 16 page templates that cover the brand portfolio, newsroom, franchising, careers and impact, all built to scale across every market Fireside serves in Canada.

Project facts

  • Client: Fireside Brands Inc. (fictional)
  • Sector: Quick-service restaurant group
  • Markets: Toronto (HQ) plus brand support centres in Vancouver, Montréal and Calgary; restaurants in more than 120 countries
  • Services: Market localisation · Copywriting · Brand adaptation · Restaurant group website design · Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) · SEO foundations
  • Templates: 42 page templates shared with every Fireside Brands edition
  • Stack: Hand-built HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript; one strings file and one theme file per market

The brief

Canadian English, Canadian places, Canadian rules

The Canadian edition starts from the US site and applies Canadian English automatically: colour, centre, cheque, but -ize endings. Then the content changes: Toronto instead of Austin, Ontario instead of Texas, Canadian provinces instead of US states, and CAD pricing with GST/HST shown before tax. Legal and privacy follow PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25, with CASL consent for email and AODA accessibility. The design system stays the same, so a new market is a content file, not a redesign.

Brand adaptation

The same Fireside Brands, with a local accent

The parent brand keeps its hearth arch and flame, but the Canadian palette is cooler and more civic: cream, paper, sand, ink, and a restrained red accent. Source Serif 4 carries headlines with warmth; Inter handles body copy with clarity. The Real Estate descriptor is not used here; this is a restaurant group.

Homepage and key journeys

A full-bleed dining-room hero eases in from a dim zoom. Below it, a slow-scrolling ribbon of brand names leads into a statement that lights up word by word as you scroll. Live counters tick up to restaurants, team members and system sales. The page then flows into brand cards, strategy, impact and the latest news. The most distinctive flow is the newsroom: filter chips (Press, Story, Snapshot, Video) work alongside a brand selector, and results update instantly without a page reload. A shareable ?brand= URL lets brand teams link straight to their own coverage.

Compliance, accessibility and trust

  • Privacy policy under PIPEDA, with Quebec Law 25 noted for Quebec residents and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as the complaint route.
  • Express consent for commercial email, as CASL requires.
  • Accessibility statement referencing AODA and WCAG 2.2 AA.
  • Passes automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks on every page at 360, 390, 768 and 1440 px: no contrast failures, no unreachable controls, no horizontal scrolling.
  • A language switcher built from hreflang sits in the header on desktop and in the footer on phones.

One system, twelve markets

Every visible string lives in one file per market, and every colour and typeface in one theme file. This edition needed no new templates or components: a strings file, a theme, regional photography and local legal content made it a different brand experience. For a restaurant group with international plans, a new market becomes a content project rather than a rebuild.

Deliverables

  • Market profile: language, formats, legal and seasonality
  • Full localised copy across 42 templates, header, footer and forms
  • Brand adaptation: palette, type pairing and logo descriptor
  • 29 regional photographs (Pexels, credited in credits.json)
  • Local legal content
  • Accessibility pass (WCAG 2.2 AA, automated) and QA at four screen widths
  • Portfolio media: stills, full-page captures, scroll video, OG image, brand board

FAQ

How is a Canadian restaurant website different from a US one?

Canadian spelling, provinces and postal codes, CAD pricing before tax, PIPEDA and CASL compliance, and AODA accessibility instead of US ADA.

Should a Canadian site be bilingual?

Federal and Quebec audiences expect French. The Fireside system is ready for a fr-CA edition alongside this one; the footer shows a disabled FR toggle marked 'bientôt / coming soon'.
