Pemberton & Hale UK - law firm website design for a London-led legal brand
Pemberton & Hale UK is the British edition of our fictional law firm, a 230-lawyer practice with five offices from London to Leeds.

Pemberton & Hale UK is the British edition of our fictional law firm, a 230-lawyer practice with five offices from London to Leeds. It shares every template with the US edition, but reads as a London firm: pounds and postcodes, FTSE 100 boards and the FCA, solicitors admitted through the SQE, and a palette of warm paper, deep ink and a single oxblood accent.

The brief
A UK law firm site that never reads as American
The risk with a UK edition is inheriting the US one: dollars, attorneys, state bars, Fortune 500. Pemberton & Hale UK keeps the twelve-template system and replaces every place, institution and habit with a British one. The firm is an LLP, its lawyers are solicitors, its clients are FTSE 100 boards, and its deals are quoted in pounds. Dates run day month year, times use the 24-hour clock, and the consent bar offers Reject all as prominently as Accept all under UK GDPR and PECR.

Designing for United Kingdom
What actually changed between the US and this edition
- Story - US edition: US firm, five US offices · United Kingdom: Founded in London in 1987 with four partners; 230 lawyers across five UK offices

- Regulator - US edition: SEC · United Kingdom: FCA
- Deals - US edition: Multi-billion-dollar public mergers · United Kingdom: £1.7B take-private of a logistics platform
- Contact - US edition: US phone format, ZIP codes · United Kingdom: +44 20 7946 0148, postcodes such as EC1M 5RN

Brand adaptation
The same Pemberton & Hale, with a local accent
Warm paper (#F6F3EE) replaces clinical white and deep ink (#15201B) carries the text, with a single oxblood accent (#8c2f39) for eyebrows, numbers and hovers. Newsreader, a high-contrast literary serif, sets headlines, quotes and accordion triggers; Instrument Sans keeps forms, navigation and footer headings plain. The palette is quieter than the US brass-and-navy system, and every pairing passes WCAG AA. The wordmark keeps the Pemberton & Hale name with no descriptor.

Homepage and key journeys
The hero opens on modern London architecture with We advise founders, boards, and institutional investors, followed by the firm-stats split (230 lawyers, five UK offices), the practice-area preview grid, a dark testimonial band citing a FTSE 100 technology General Counsel, a people preview and an insights preview, each section revealing on scroll. The distinctive flow is the practice detail template: an accordion of focus areas with single-panel-open behaviour, a contacts module naming the London partner, and related insights, including the £1.7B take-private of a logistics platform.

Compliance, accessibility and trust
- Privacy notice under the UK GDPR and PECR naming Pemberton & Hale LLP as controller, with a consent bar that offers Reject all as prominently as Accept all.
- Regulatory line naming the Solicitors Regulation Authority, with the standard note that submitting the contact form does not create a solicitor-client relationship.
- Footer in Companies House format with the LLP's company number and VAT number; no US state bar admissions or SEC references.
- Passes automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks on every page at 360, 390, 768 and 1440 px: no contrast failures, no unreachable controls, no horizontal scrolling.
- A language switcher built from
hreflangsits in the header on desktop and in the footer on phones.
One system, twelve markets
Every visible string lives in one file per market, and every colour and typeface in one theme file. This edition needed no new templates or components: a strings file, a theme, regional photography and local legal content made it a different brand experience. For a law firm with international plans, a new market becomes a content project rather than a rebuild.

FAQ
How is a UK law firm website different from a US one?
Lawyers are solicitors rather than attorneys, clients are FTSE 100 rather than Fortune 500, and legal copy follows UK GDPR, PECR and the Solicitors Regulation Authority rather than US state bars and the SEC.
Can one website design serve the UK and the US?
Yes. Pemberton & Hale shares twelve templates and one component library across editions; the UK edition overrides places, institutions and spelling while the template logic stays untouched.
Does the site work for a firm with several offices?
The office directory and office detail templates scale from one location to five, with local leadership, office-specific news and photography for each.
