Wistful UK: AI Fashion E-Commerce Website Design for a British Market
Wistful is our fictional AI personal stylist, shopping 12,000+ fashion houses through a single conversation.

Wistful is our fictional AI personal stylist, shopping 12,000+ fashion houses through a single conversation. The UK edition keeps every template from the US original, but reads as a British brand: prices in pounds with VAT included, a London registered office, British spelling throughout, and a palette drawn from heritage greens and muted brick. The conversational shopping experience, virtual try-on and motion system are unchanged; only the market layer moves.

The brief
A British fashion e-commerce site that never reads as American
The risk with a UK edition is inheriting the US one: dollars, ZIP codes, attorney, sales tax. Wistful UK keeps the conversational core but replaces every price, place, legal reference and spelling with a British one. Shoppers see £685, not $685; the footer names Wistful Ltd and a Clerkenwell Road address; the privacy notice is written for UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. The tone is understated and dry, with no exclamation marks.

Brand adaptation
The same Wistful, with a local accent
The palette moves from the US edition's cool white-grey and raspberry to a heritage register: a soft green-tinted canvas, warm paper panels, near-black ink and a muted brick accent. Newsreader, a literary serif, carries headlines; Instrument Sans keeps forms and navigation plain. The wordmark is unchanged, still an italic Wistful that reads like a magazine masthead. Accent and ink pairings are AA-checked.

Homepage and key journeys
The homepage opens on a British street scene with the same conversational composer in the hero. The four-step method (Explore, Chat, Save, Refine) is unchanged, but the proof points and prompts are localised: a wedding guest look for the Cotswolds in May, a holiday wardrobe for the Amalfi Coast, a sculptural piece for a gallery opening under £600. The prompt library and occasion grid use British spelling and GBP. The most distinctive flow is still the composer: type a half-formed idea, get a stylist reply with shoppable cards, refine with one tap. The try-on demo and motion system are identical to the US build.

Compliance, accessibility and trust
- Privacy notice under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, naming Wistful Ltd as controller, with the route to the Information Commissioner's Office.
- Terms governed by the laws of England and Wales, with consumer rights preserved.
- Footer with a UK company line: Wistful Ltd, registered in England & Wales, registered office 120 Clerkenwell Road, London, EC1M 5RN, VAT number placeholder.
- Passes automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks on every page at 360, 390, 768 and 1440 px: no contrast failures, no unreachable controls, no horizontal scrolling.
- A language switcher built from
hreflangsits in the header on desktop and in the footer on phones.
One system, twelve markets
Every visible string lives in one file per market, and every colour and typeface in one theme file. This edition needed no new templates or components: a strings file, a theme, regional photography and local legal content made it a different brand experience. For a fashion label with international plans, a new market becomes a content project rather than a rebuild.
