Spéir Ireland: entertainment website design for a Dublin-led shared-reality venue brand

Spéir Ireland is the Irish edition of our fictional shared-reality venue brand, with domes in Dublin, Cork and Galway and a fourth breaking ground in Waterford. It shares every template with the US edition, but reads as an Irish operator: prices in euros with VAT included, Eircodes, 24-hour times, Co. Dublin addresses, and a palette drawn from coastal light and natural materials. The copy is warm and plain-spoken, with British spelling inherited from the UK edition.

Project facts

  • Client: Spéir Entertainment Ltd, registered in Ireland (fictional)
  • Sector: Location-based entertainment, sports and live events
  • Markets: Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick (Waterford waitlist)
  • Services: Market localisation · Copywriting · Brand adaptation · Entertainment venue website design · Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) · SEO foundations
  • Templates: 7 page templates shared with every Spéir edition
  • Stack: Hand-built HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript; one strings file and one theme file per market

The brief

An Irish venue site that never reads as American or British

The biggest risk for an Irish edition is inheriting the US one: dollars, ZIP codes, 12-hour clocks and US regulators. Spéir Ireland keeps the cinematic atmosphere and the booking flow of the original, but replaces every place, price, law and habit with an Irish one. Visitors search by town and Eircode, see prices in euros with VAT included, and read legal copy that names the Data Protection Commission and the CCPC. The tone is modest and conversational, without the hard-sell superlatives of the US site.

Designing for Ireland

What actually changed between the US and this edition

  • Story - US edition: 87-foot LED domes across US cities · Ireland: 26-metre domes in Dublin, Cork and Galway, starting with a car park prototype in Galway
  • Venue - US edition: Chicago flagship, West Loop · Ireland: Dublin flagship, Dublin 2, with a 26-metre dome and 900 seats
  • Prices - US edition: $29 · Ireland: €29, VAT included
  • Search - US edition: City, neighborhood, address or ZIP · Ireland: Town, neighbourhood, address or Eircode
  • Markets - US edition: US cities and regions · Ireland: Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick, with Waterford on the waitlist
  • Legal - US edition: FCC, FDA, EPA, Better Business Bureau, Data Protection Act · Ireland: Coimisiún na Meán, HPRA, EPA (Ireland), CCPC, Data Protection Act 2018 (IE), EU GDPR
  • Consent - US edition: Opt-out notice banner · Ireland: Opt-in consent, Reject all as prominent as Accept all
  • Look - US edition: After-dark ink, ember-to-amber gradient, violet glow · Ireland: Coastal calm: ink, cream, ember and aurora green; Literata + Public Sans

Brand adaptation

The same Spéir, with a local accent

The palette moves away from the US edition's after-dark violet glow towards a quieter coastal calm: deep ink and cream for the base, ember for accents and aurora green for secondary highlights. Literata gives headlines a literary, story-led feel; Public Sans keeps forms and navigation plain. The wordmark keeps the Spéir name and the concentric-arc dome mark. Voice is warm, modest and conversational, with no hype.

Homepage and key journeys

The homepage opens on a full-bleed hero with a slow cinematic push-in and the line An 26-metre dome wraps you in the game, the gig, the galaxy, followed by live stats (26 m LED dome, spatial sound, guest numbers). A kinetic marquee sets the rhythm, then a Upcoming at Spéir Dublin rail shows what's on with date badges and prices from €19. Category tiles cover live sports watch parties, concert film experiences, immersive cinema and immersive art and light shows. A dome showcase with an arched frame mirrors the venue shape. The most distinctive flow is the venue switcher: city cards for Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick (Waterford waitlist) each open a venue hub with a four-part info bar (address, hours, transit, box office), a city-specific event rail and a food and drink feature for the Orbit Bar. Booking stays one tap away via a sticky showtime panel on event pages.

Compliance, accessibility and trust

  • Privacy notice under the EU GDPR naming Spéir Entertainment Ltd (registered in Ireland) as controller, with the route to the Data Protection Commission.
  • Consumer rights statement referencing the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and the Data Protection Act 2018 (IE).
  • Footer with an Irish company line and CRO number; no US regulators or schemes.
  • Passes automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks on every page at 360, 390, 768 and 1440 px: no contrast failures, no unreachable controls, no horizontal scrolling.
  • A language switcher built from hreflang sits in the header on desktop and in the footer on phones.

One system, twelve markets

Every visible string lives in one file per market, and every colour and typeface in one theme file. This edition needed no new templates or components: a strings file, a theme, regional photography and local legal content made it a different brand experience. For an entertainment venue group with international plans, a new market becomes a content project rather than a rebuild.

Deliverables

  • Market profile: language, formats, legal and seasonality
  • Full localised copy across 7 templates, header, footer and forms
  • Brand adaptation: palette, type pairing and logo descriptor
  • 30 regional photographs (Pexels, credited in credits.json)
  • Local legal content
  • Accessibility pass (WCAG 2.2 AA, automated) and QA at four screen widths
  • Portfolio media: stills, full-page captures, scroll video, OG image, brand board

FAQ

How is an Irish venue website different from a US one?

Prices are in euros with VAT included, distances in metres, postcodes become Eircodes, times use the 24-hour clock, and legal copy follows the EU GDPR, the Data Protection Commission and the CCPC rather than US law.

Can one website design serve Ireland and the US?

Yes. Spéir shares templates across editions; Ireland inherits British spelling from the UK edition and overrides everything that is genuinely Irish, from venue names to consent.
