Tinker Ireland - electronics website design for a modular laptop brand

Tinker Ireland is the Irish edition of our modular laptop concept, adapted for the Irish consumer electronics market. It brings together an interactive laptop configurator, an exploded parts view and a repair marketplace with euro pricing, Eircode validation, An Post trade-in kits, and EU consumer warranties, set in a palette drawn from coastal moss, slate and warm amber.

The brief

An electronics ecommerce platform built for Irish and EU consumers

Adapting a direct-to-consumer hardware brand for Ireland requires more than changing currency signs. Tinker Ireland replaces US ZIP codes with Eircodes, sets up prepaid hardware returns via An Post, incorporates mandatory EU statutory warranty terms, and aligns with European right-to-repair rules. The visual tone steps away from silicon-valley neon green toward calm coastal slate, peat moss and warm amber, all set in Public Sans.

Designing for Ireland

What actually changed between the US and this edition

  • Currency & Pricing - US edition: $ USD pricing ($899 baseline) · Ireland: € EUR pricing (€89 free delivery threshold)

  • Hardware Trade-in - US edition: Prepaid US postal return pack · Ireland: Prepaid An Post return shipping label emailed directly to the customer
  • Warranty & Consumer Law - US edition: Standard 1-year limited warranty · Ireland: 1-year brand warranty on top of the statutory 2-year EU legal guarantee
  • Returns & Part Longevity - US edition: Standard 30-day domestic return policy · Ireland: 30-day returns exceeding the statutory 14-day EU cooling-off window; 7-year spare parts commitment
  • Legal Entity & Location - US edition: US corporation, Delaware registration · Ireland: Tinker Devices Ireland Ltd, The Digital Hub, Thomas Street, Dublin 8; Irish support phone (01 555 0173)
  • Customer Reviews - US edition: US reviewer names and US school terminology · Ireland: Irish names (Aoife, Seán, Gráinne, Tomás) and Irish primary school phrasing ('fifth class')
  • Colour Palette - US edition: Graphite, circuit green and electric-lime accents · Ireland: Deep slate, coastal moss green and warm amber over a soft stone background

Brand adaptation

The same Tinker, with a local accent

Public Sans Variable serves as both display and body type, giving the hardware specs and repair documentation a clear, technical look. The palette uses deep slate (#1B2326) for strong typography, coastal moss green (#2F5D50) for interactive elements, and warm amber (#C7843B) for highlights and selections. Everything rests on a soft stone canvas (#F4F4EF) that passes WCAG AA contrast standards across all components.

Homepage, configurator and marketplace

The home page opens on the modular promise of one screwdriver alongside a scroll-driven exploded assembly that exposes the mainboard, port cards and display. Visitors move into the configurator to assemble a DIY Edition or pre-built system, with live euro pricing, Eircode validation, and free delivery across Ireland on orders over €89. Below the fold, the parts marketplace sorts components by model and generation, linking directly into step-by-step repair guides.

Compliance, accessibility and trust

  • Statutory 2-year EU legal guarantee clearly stated alongside the 1-year manufacturer warranty.
  • 30-day consumer returns policy structured to surpass the 14-day EU statutory cooling-off requirement.
  • Seven-year spare parts availability commitment matching EU right-to-repair directives.
  • Footer company imprint for Tinker Devices Ireland Ltd, The Digital Hub, Thomas Street, Dublin 8.
  • Passes automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks on every page at 360, 390, 768 and 1440 px: no contrast failures, no unreachable controls, no horizontal scrolling.
  • A language switcher built from hreflang sits in the header on desktop and in the footer on phones.

One system, twelve markets

Every visible string lives in one region pack per market (copy, data and alt text), and every colour and typeface in one theme file. This edition needed no new templates or components: a region pack, a theme, local data and legal content made it a different brand experience. For a hardware brand with international plans, a new market becomes a content project rather than a rebuild.

Deliverables

  • Market profile: language, formats, legal and seasonality
  • Full localised copy across 13 templates, header, footer and forms
  • Brand adaptation: palette, type pairing and logo descriptor
  • 0 regional photographs (Pexels, credited in credits.json)
  • Local legal content
  • Accessibility pass (WCAG 2.2 AA, automated) and QA at four screen widths
  • Portfolio media: stills, full-page captures, scroll video, OG image, brand board

FAQ

Is Tinker Ireland an active electronics store?

No. Tinker Ireland is a fictional concept project created to demonstrate electronics website design, interactive configurator UX and market localisation for Ireland.

How is an Irish electronics ecommerce store different from a US one?

It uses euro pricing, Eircode address validation, An Post return logistics, illustrative APR credit disclosures, and explicit notices for the 2-year EU statutory legal guarantee.

Can this configurator layout work for other consumer hardware brands?

Yes. The design system, faceted component filters, upgrade compatibility checker and multi-step configurator are built to adapt to any physical product catalog.
