Akash India - entertainment website design for a shared-reality dome brand

Akash India runs LED domes where live sport, concert films, immersive cinema and light art wrap around the room. The India edition keeps the cinematic build of the US site and rewrites it for how Indian audiences book a night out: prices in rupees inclusive of GST, shows in English with Hindi captions, venues in Indiranagar, Bandra, Gurugram and HITEC City, and a DPDP-ready privacy policy with a named Grievance Officer.

Project facts

  • Client: Akash Entertainment India Pvt Ltd (fictional)
  • Sector: Location-based entertainment, sport and live events
  • Markets: Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad
  • Services: Market localisation · Copywriting · Brand adaptation · Entertainment venue website design · Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) · SEO foundations
  • Templates: 7 page templates shared with every Akash edition
  • Stack: Hand-built HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript; one strings file and one theme file per market

The brief

Built for how India books a night out

Indian audiences plan in groups and decide on price, language and travel time. The edition rewrites event cards, venue hubs and private-hire packages around those habits: rupee prices with GST included, English and Hindi captions, metro and PIN-code directions, and a festive-season calendar that peaks from Navratri to Diwali. It adds a DPDP-compliant privacy policy, a Grievance Officer and a demo CIN in the footer, and keeps brand and show names untranslated.

Akash India: The brief

Designing for India

  • Venue - US edition: Chicago, West Loop · India: Delhi NCR, Indiranagar, with MG Road Metro and a rooftop bar
  • Directions - US edition: Address, transit, box office · India: Building, area and PIN code; Purple Line metro; rideshare on 100 Feet Road
  • Search - US edition: ZIP code · India: PIN code
  • Dining - US edition: Chef story and rooftop bar · India: Chef Ananya Iyer's wood-fire menu, cocktails from ₹1,200, menu that changes with the programme
  • Legal - US edition: Privacy Act, FTC · India: DPDP Act 2023, Data Protection Board of India, Grievance Officer, demo CIN
  • Look - US edition: After-dark ink, cream, ember-to-amber gradient · India: Deep indigo ink, warm cream, marigold and teal; Eczar + Mukta (Devanagari-ready)

Brand adaptation

The same Akash, with a local accent

Deep indigo carries the interface, marigold brings festive warmth to italics and teal marks secondary actions, with a brighter marigold on dark panels. Eczar and Mukta both include Devanagari, so a fuller Hindi edition can follow without a new type system. Corners are slightly rounder than the US build and the layout is denser, with more proof points visible per screen.

Homepage and key journeys

The homepage opens on a full-bleed hero and hands straight to Upcoming at Akash Bengaluru, a drag-to-scroll rail with date badges and rupee prices. City cards cover Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, the last marked HITEC City · Join the waitlist. The distinctive flow is the event detail: story-led synopsis, quick facts including language with Hindi CC, and a sticky showtime panel that follows you down the page, with tickets from ₹2,400 inclusive of GST.

Compliance, accessibility and trust

  • Privacy policy under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, naming Akash Entertainment India Pvt Ltd as Data Fiduciary, with a Grievance Officer and the Data Protection Board of India.
  • Footer with a demo CIN, Grievance Officer email, and Privacy policy, Terms and Grievance redressal pages.
  • Aadhaar collected only where legally required, for example age-restricted bookings.
  • Passes automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks on every page at 360, 390, 768 and 1440 px: no contrast failures, no unreachable controls, no horizontal scrolling.
  • A language switcher built from hreflang sits in the header on desktop and in the footer on phones.

One system, twelve markets

Every visible string lives in one file per market, and every colour and typeface in one theme file. This edition needed no new templates or components: a strings file, a theme, regional photography and local legal content made it a different brand experience. For an entertainment venue group with international plans, a new market becomes a content project rather than a rebuild.

Deliverables

  • Market profile: language, formats, legal and seasonality
  • Full localised copy across 7 templates, header, footer and forms
  • Brand adaptation: palette, type pairing and logo descriptor
  • 30 regional photographs (Pexels, credited in credits.json)
  • Local legal content
  • Accessibility pass (WCAG 2.2 AA, automated) and QA at four screen widths
  • Portfolio media: stills, full-page captures, scroll video, OG image, brand board
