Jugaad Labs India: electronics website design for a modular laptop brand

Jugaad Labs India is a concept project by Mellon: a modular laptop brand you can open, repair and upgrade, localised for Indian buyers. Prices are in rupees with GST included, budgets run in lakh bands, EMIs sit beside the total, and delivery is free over ₹8,199. It also follows the E-Waste Rules, with doorstep pickup and authorised recyclers.

Built for how India buys laptops

Indian buyers weigh the full price against EMI, compare a DIY kit with a pre-built model, and want to know a part will fit before they order. The edition rewrites the configurator, filters and trade-in around those habits: rupee price bands, an EMI line under every total, a 6-digit PIN code in checkout, and a trade-in that collects from the door. It keeps the concept-project disclaimer and adds an e-waste note for recycling.

Brand adaptation

The same Jugaad Labs, with a local accent

Indigo carries the interface and marigold marks accents, prices and selected states, with a brighter marigold on the dark panels. Poppins sets headings and Mukta sets body copy, both with the density Indian product pages expect. The descriptor stays Jugaad Labs; the legal name becomes Jugaad Labs Devices India Pvt Ltd.

Homepage, configurator and marketplace

The home page leads with the promise, one screwdriver, then moves from model families to parts, repair and trade-in. The scroll-driven exploded view separates the laptop into labelled layers linked to the shop. The distinctive Indian flow is the configurator: pick a DIY Edition or pre-built, choose processor, memory, storage and keyboard layout, watch the rupee total and EMI line update, and keep add-to-bag in a sticky bar.

Compliance, accessibility and trust

• Privacy and returns note for a concept project: no orders are placed and all products, prices and reviews are sample content.
• E-waste note: working devices are refurbished and resold; everything else goes to authorised e-waste recyclers, with batteries, metals and plastics separated.
• Footer with the fictional legal name Jugaad Labs Devices India Pvt Ltd and the Indiranagar, Bengaluru address.
• Passes automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks on every page at 360, 390, 768 and 1440 px: no contrast failures, no unreachable controls, no horizontal scrolling.
• A language switcher built from hreflang sits in the header on desktop and in the footer on phones.

One system, twelve markets

Every visible string lives in one region pack per market (copy, data and alt text), and every colour and typeface in one theme file. This edition needed no new templates or components: a region pack, a theme, local data and legal content made it a different brand experience. For a hardware brand with international plans, a new market becomes a content project rather than a rebuild.
